Okay. This article will be a little different. Have a pencil handy. This article involves a quiz, so give it a try and see how you do. Ready…set…write!
Besides Elon Musk, name the five wealthiest people in the world.
(For the football fans) Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
List ten people who have one the Nobel Peace Prize or the Pulitzer Prize.
Name at least six Academy Award winners – three for best actor, three for best actress.
List the last five years World Series winners.
How did you do? To be honest, I didn’t do too well myself. The point is simple. Most of these people or teams are some of the very best in their field or sport, and yesterday they were headliners. However in time, the applause dies down, the awards lose their luster, and the achievements are not remembered except in trivia quizzes (and even then not completely).
Okay, here’s another quiz…let’s see how well you do with this one.
List at least three teachers or professors who helped you in school or college.
Name at least three friends who have helped you make it through difficult times.
Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile for life and/or eternity.
List at least six people you enjoy spending time with.
Name six heroes whose lives and influence has inspired you.
How did you do with that one? I hope it was much easier! The lesson here is pretty obvious. The people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most fame, money, or awards. They may not make “who’s who” or “The Top 10 of this or that”, but they care about us. They invest time and concern and love and prayer in our lives. I could name several on each category of the second quiz. In fact I know one person who fits all five of those categories in my life, I hope He does for yours as well. By the way, His name is Jesus Christ! “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
