There are several places in scripture about the influence of grandparents, and the wisdom that comes with age (see Proverbs 17.6; 20.29; 23.22; 2 Timothy 1.5). Not that grandparents are old! As I often say, "You arent' old until you are 90 - then you are starting to get old!" We are to be grateful and respectful toward our elders, we all have much to learn from them.
But you can't really think about Grandparents Day without the interesting things that they hear or see from their Grandchildren:
A sweet little boy surprised his grandmother one morning and brought her a cup of coffee. He made it himself and was so proud. He anxiously waited to hear the verdict on the quality of the coffee. The grandmother had never in her life had such a bad cup of coffee, and as she forced down the last sip she noticed three of those little green army guys in the bottom of the cup.
She asked, "Honey, why would three little green army guys be in the bottom of my cup?"
Her grandson replied, "You know grandma, it's like on TV, 'The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup."

The Bible tells us in several places, that as Christians, we are part of the body of Christ (see Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4). As members of the body of Christ, we have an obligation and responsibility to each other. This means to help each other, pray for each other, and love one another. This is a modern day "parable" that emphasizes this biblical truth:
A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
"What food might this contain?" the mouse wondered - - -he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning :
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him,
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr.Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."
The mouse turned to the cow and said,
"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse, I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . alone.
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.
But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.
The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral; the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.
The next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage and help one another.
We can learn a lesson from this, there are times when others are hurting, or something that could be harmful to them may be in their path. Pray for those who are hurting; maybe a phone call, or e-mail or sending a card to remind them that you are praying. Tangible ways of showing that you are concerned mean so very much. If you have not yet read it, there is a related article on our website under "Anchor Articles - Smoother Sailing" entitled, "The Body".

We have recently added to our Anchor Articles, an article entitled, "Prayer: Where the Action Is", and a book review of Bill Gothard's "Pavilions of Protection" - co-written with Don Veinot of Midwest Christian Outreach.
Our Wonderful Creator and Savior
This is the most beautiful visual collection of flora and fauna that I have seen on DVD. The beauty of the earth that our Lord has created is astounding. I imagine that watching it on high-def television is even better. The only part of the DVD collection that could have been left out would be the "And x-million years ago...". There are places and creatures on this DVD that relatively few people have seen with the human eye. Much of it is filmed from a helicopter with a special camera. If you get the chance, watch it.
Listen Carefully
Cell phones and the Bible
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we went back to get when we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts (or adults for that matter)?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
This is something to make you go....hmm...where is my Bible?
So remember this..
You'll never have dropped calls and unlike cell phones, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.
But most important of all...you'll never have to ask Him "Can you hear me now?"
Makes you stop and think, "Where are my priorities?"

While the plates were being passed to gather the offering, I noticed a little boy quickly slip off his neck tie and place it into the offering plate as it went by him. His mother was absolutely mortified. "What do you think you're doing?" she asked him.
"The pastor said put your ties in the offering plate and do it joyfully," the boy replied. "I love that man!"
Solitude
Jesus gave a wonderful promise concerning solitude in prayer in Matthew 6.6:

Forgetting and Remembering
- Some things should be forgotten
- There are some things that our Lord forgets!
- Some things aren't worth remembering
- Some things should be remembered
Thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. Deuteronomy 8.2
We also should remember His word, and allow it to work in our lives:
